Michael Bernstein
President and Chief Executive Officer, IHS
Michael Bernstein was named President and CEO of IHS in 2004, having previously retired as President of Cobalt Corporation, following its sale to industry giant Wellpoint Health Networks. As President and COO of Cobalt Corporation, Bernstein was responsible for all of Cobalt’s health insurance operations, including Blue Cross & Blue Shield, CompcareBlue and the Unity and Valley HMOs. He began working at Blue Cross & Blue Shield United of Wisconsin in 1987 as an attorney.
Bernstein left BCBSUW in the mid-1990s to become Senior Vice President for University Health Care in Madison, Wisconsin. While associated with UW Health, Bernstein helped negotiate and complete the merger of two of the largest medical groups in the state. He was named Executive Vice President of UW Medical Foundation in 1998, the largest medical group practice in Wisconsin and one of the top 10 clinics in the country. He left UWMF in early 2000 to assist in the successful completion of the conversion of BCBSUW to a for-profit entity and merger of that company with United Wisconsin Services, Inc. to form Cobalt Corporation and subsequently became the Company’s President and COO.
Education: Bernstein has a J.D. from McGeorge School of Law, Sacramento, CA and a B.A. from University of California Davis.
Terri Bernacchi
Founder, IHS
Terri Bernacchi is the Founder of Innovative Health Strategies (IHS), Inc., a technology-enabled business solutions provider that affords pharmaceutical manufacturers assistance with their rebate and pricing agreements. The company, in business since 1995, works on behalf of pharmaceutical manufacturers, but interacts with both payers and manufacturers, and is involved with national discussions involving compliance issues between trading partners and issues affecting the industry at all levels. Bernacchi has led numerous training sessions, workshops, and served as a featured speaker for health and technology conferences on a regional and national level. She has authored several articles and white papers published in national Pharmaceutical magazines over her 30-year career.
Before founding IHS, she served four years with Blue Cross & Blue Shield United of Wisconsin, where she oversaw Pharmacy Services, worked with employer groups, managed manufacturer rebate contracting, and chaired the Pharmacy & Therapeutics committee. She has additional experience in physician practice management, consulting for an integrated health system, hospital and specialty sales for a national pharmaceutical company, and nine years as a hospital pharmacist in an acute care hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.
Education:
Terri, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin’s Pharmacy School, also obtained a Masters of Business Administration from Keller. She is currently working on a part-time basis toward her Pharm.D. at the University of Florida.
