High Number of Stethoscopes Found to Be Contaminated
A new study found that about one-third of all stethoscopes used by emergency medical services (EMS) providers is contaminated with the dangerous, sometimes deadly, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteria.

FDA Buckling Down on Unapproved Drugs
The FDA is contacting pharmacies and distributors, and training them to look for FDA approval labels when considering purchasing product or filling a prescription. The agency sent warning letters to nine pharmaceutical companies marketing 14 unapproved narcotic drugs to treat pain. While these are drugs that have been on the market for decades, they are not legacy drugs, nor are they grandfathered.

Americans Not Prepared for the Real High Cost of Health Care
Four out of five (81%) employed Americans are not feeling extremely confident about job security, and, if they were to lose their job, many are not prepared for the health insurance costs awaiting them, according to a new consumer survey commissioned by eHealthInsurance, the leading online source for individual and family health insurance.

Walgreens Declines Washington State Medicaid Reimbursement Rules
Walgreens said as a result of "extreme reimbursement cuts" in the state of Washington's Medicaid program, it would pull nearly half of its pharmacies from the state's Medicaid program as of May 1. The company operates 111 pharmacies throughout the state, and the 44 affected pharmacies represent more than 60% of the company's total Medicaid business in the state.
